Trip to the Amazing Book Awards
On Friday 19 June, our library staff had the pleasure of taking a fantastic group of book club students to the Amazing Book Awards at Durrington High School.
Now in its 15th year, this unique award puts students firmly in the driving seat, giving them the exciting responsibility of choosing the titles that make it onto the shortlist. It’s a brilliant celebration of reading, creativity, and student voice.
This year’s ceremony was a real highlight. Students had the chance to hear from all five shortlisted authors, who shared their personal journeys into writing and offered fascinating insights into how their stories and characters come to life. It was an inspiring experience for all involved.
The winning title was Mondays Are Murder by Ravena Guron — a gripping and well-deserved choice (and the perfect page-turner to pack for the holidays!). The novel kicks off with a chilling premise: the protagonist receives a threatening letter warning that she will be murdered by the end of the week.
There was plenty more to enjoy throughout the evening, including a buzzing bookshop where students could browse and buy new reads, pick up bookish merchandise, and take part in raffles. The event was brilliantly hosted by compère Benjamin Dean, author of Bury Your Friends and How to Die Famous, the latter a previous award winner.
Levi, one of our students, summed up the experience perfectly:
“This trip was so fun — it was amazing to listen to passionate authors talk about their books, and to hear other students ask such engaging and thought-provoking questions. There was also a fantastic selection of books and accessories to choose from.”
All in all, it was a memorable and inspiring evening that celebrated a shared love of reading and storytelling
Thank you to Cosmo L P for capturing the book award evening on camera.
