2025 Subject Fair at Lancing College Guides Fifth Form Students Toward A Level Success
On Monday 13 January, Great School was transformed into a vibrant Subject Fair for our current Fifth Form pupils, who are preparing to embark on their A Level journeys.
The fair featured 25 stands, where pupils and parents could engage with subject teachers to learn more about the expectations for each subject and the opportunities they can provide, both at university level and in future career paths.
Lancing College currently offers the following Sixth Form subjects:
- Art
- Biology
- Business (BTEC)
- Chemistry
- Classical Civilisation
- Computer Science
- Design and Technology
- Drama and Theatre
- Economics
- English Literature
- French
- Geography
- German
- History
- Latin
- Mathematics and Further Mathematics
- Music
- Photography
- Physics
- Politics
- Psychology
- Religious Studies
- Spanish
- Sport (BTEC)
During Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to follow one of four ‘routes’ , each designed to get the best out of each and every individual, taking into consideration their strengths and capability across the spectrum of academia as well as their cocurricular commitments:
Route A
Three A Levels/option blocks
Designed for students who may benefit from more time/support per subject or who have many co-curricular commitments.
Route B
Three A Levels/option blocks + Extended Project Qualification (or equivalent extension study programme)
This is likely to be the preferred route allowing both subject specialism plus a greater emphasis on depth and developing study skills.
Route C
Four A Levels/options initially
This will be the choice of the high achieving all-rounder or those who wish to pursue Further Mathematics. Students would need to be achieving a Grade 7.5+ GCSE average to make this a well-advised route and, of course, meet the qualifying criteria for each of their subject choices.
Route D
Four A Levels + EPQ
This option carries the same entry criteria for Route C, but would have added to this even more extension material, via an EPQ or alternative extension pathway. While highly rewarding and accessible to some of our students, there is a high cognitive and workload demand for this pathway.
The Subject Fair was a great success, providing our enthusiastic V Form pupils and their families an opportunity to gain insight into the diverse academic pathways available at Lancing College. With tailored routes designed to support every student’s aspirations, strengths, and commitments, we aim to equip each individual with the tools they need to thrive during their Sixth Form years – and beyond! Whether choosing a focused three-subject route, embracing the challenge of four A Levels, or exploring opportunities for academic extension, our Sixth Form experience is crafted to inspire excellence and prepare pupils for future success.
