Job Interview Practice for our Lower Sixth Students
Our Super Curriculum and My Futures Programme are designed to equip students with essential life skills for when they leave the College, whether to pursue work, university, or a gap year. This programme is regularly reviewed and shaped by feedback from both current students and alumni who have graduated in the past three years.
On the morning of Saturday 11 January 2025, our Lower Sixth pupils participated in one-to-one job interviews with parents and OLs acting as recruiters. Each student was interviewed for ten minutes at a time, and then given five minutes to discuss their performance with the recruiter, receiving individual tailored feedback.
Although the interviews were not job-specific, recruiters asked typical interview questions that are commonly encountered in many professional settings. These included:
- Tell me something about yourself.
- Can you describe a time when you had to think on your feet to deal with a situation?
- Have you ever been overwhelmed with work? How did you handle it?
- Tell me about a challenging situation you faced and how you dealt with it.
- Can you give an example of when you went above and beyond the expectations of a task or job?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our interviewers, who provided invaluable feedback on the students’ responses, their question handling capabilities, their professionalism, and overall demeanour. The one-to-one interview practice is designed to inspire confidence in our pupils as they prepare for life beyond Lancing, equipping them with valuable skills for their future careers. We look forward to the day when our Sixth Form pupils return to campus as accomplished professionals, ready to pass on their expertise by conducting practice interviews for the next generation!
