College Staff Celebrate Sporting Triumphs
Lancing College is proud to celebrate the outstanding athletic achievements of two of its dedicated teachers, Karen Andrew and Kelly Edwards, who recently competed in prestigious international triathlon events, representing both their countries and the College with remarkable performances.
Karen’s (Third!) Ironman Journey
On 14 July 2024, Karen, our Assistant Head of Co-Curricular, showcased her endurance and determination at the Spanish Ironman in Vitoria Gasteiz, finishing second in her age group with an impressive time of 10:52:30. This extraordinary performance earned her a coveted spot in the Ironman World Championships in Nice, held on 22 September.
The Ironman event, which Karen has now completed a total of three times, consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42km run. Just nine weeks after her success in Spain, Karen competed against over 1,100 women on the challenging course in Nice, finishing 72nd in her age group with a time of 13:08 hours – an incredible achievement on the world stage!
Kelly’s European and World Championship Success
Kelly Edwards, Housemistress of Manor House, Director of Sport and another inspiring member of our Lancing College staff, competed in the European Championship in Vichy, France, on the same day Karen took on the World Championships in Nice. Kelly represented Great Britain in the Olympic distance triathlon, consisting of a 1500m swim, 42km bike ride, and 10km run. She finished an impressive 16th in her age group.
Earlier this summer, Kelly qualified for the 2025 World Championships in Wollongong, Australia, after a standout performance at the Cowman qualifier race in Milton Keynes. She will represent Great Britain next October, competing in the same Olympic distance event.
A huge congratulations to Karen and Kelly on their incredible dedication, perseverance, and achievements!
