Hockey
In our weekend block against Roedean we had lots of close matches which could have gone either way!
The 1st XI fought hard but ended 2-1 to the opposition (goal scored by Chloe S). MVPs awarded to Chloe S, Harriet Brookfield
The 2nd XI dominated from start to finish, which led to two great goals from Emily S and Ava U. Lancing ended the match 2-1 winners. MVP Freya T.
The 3rd XI had arguably the best game of the season and as Miss Airey writes they were unlucky not to get the win, finishing 0-0. MVPs were Sara K, Johanna R and Ollie C.
U15A Lost 3-0
Despite a strong defensive effort from Lily S and exciting attacking play by MVP Molly B, the team unfortunately couldn’t convert their chances in what was a good game of hockey in tough conditions. MVP Molly B.
U15B vs Roedean (H) Lost 1-0
In tough conditions, the team put up a solid fight, especially in the first half. MVP was awarded to Imari D who worked hard on the wing all afternoon.
U14A vs Roedean Lost 4-1
After a slow start to the game, the team pulled it back to 2-1 by halftime. Despite a strong second half, two quick goals from Roedean sealed the game.
Lancing’s goal was scored by Anna Z. MVP was awarded to Molly Champion
Individual Hockey success
Lily S and Bibi W have also been selected for the Sussex County Hockey teams this season.
Football
In the final week before Half Term, the House football Sixes competition took place. In the Junior competition on Tuesday, Head’s and Saints’ made it through to the final in what was a tense encounter. 0-0 after normal time, the game went to Golden Goal, and it was Saints’ who struck the decisive blow. Francis R scored a spectacular winner on the volley, into the roof of the net to give Saints’ House the Victory.
For the Seniors, Gibbs’ and School House made it through to the final and an outstanding bicycle kick and goal of the season contender from Zac A-J gave Gibbs’ House the victory.
Junior Winners – Saints’
Senior Winners – Gibb’
Squash match vs Hurst
In the first squash match of the year it was Charlie S, Mathew B and Tom M who won their games against Hurst, and overall the match finished 7-7>
MVP was awarded to Charlie Stewart.
Inter-House Swimming
It was wonderful to see so many new and returning faces at the swimming pool last week for the Inter-House swimming competition. After a highly competitive afternoon, the results are as follows:
In the Junior Girls’ competition, Manor came third, Handford came second, and Field’s won by a considerable lead.
In the Junior ‘Open’ competition (this includes the boys’ Houses and Saints’), Gibbs’ placed in third, Saints’ came in second, with School House swimming to victory.
In the Senior Girls’ competition, Handford came third, Manor second, and Sankey’s won overall.
In the Senior Boys’ category, Saints’ and School drew for third place, Second’s came second, and Head’s took home the trophy.
The award for ‘best supporting House’ – that is the team that shouted the loudest and rallied around their team the best – goes to Teme House.
Best of luck to Freddie B (Upper Sixth, Teme House) who is in Azerbaijan for the European Championships, for TeamGym representing Team GB this week. And a huge congratulations to Nelly G (Lower Sixth, Manor House) representing Wales in Portugal for the Women’s U17 Euros. Both athletes are sure to make their teams proud.
