Pre-School & Reception
We recognise that every child is unique, developing and learning in their own way and at their own pace. In our early years classes, we take the time to build strong, positive relationships with each child so they feel known, understood and supported from the very beginning.
Our teachers and teaching assistants work closely with children both individually and in small groups, creating an environment where every pupil is encouraged to explore, grow in confidence and achieve their very best. Through this personalised approach, we ensure that each child’s strengths are nurtured and their curiosity is allowed to flourish.
Pre-prep pupils develop awareness of the world around them, making intelligent observations about their environment and showing an excellent understanding of cause and effect.

About the Curriculum
Children in both Pre-School and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which is based around seven areas of learning – Communication and Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; Expressive Arts and Design.
The pupils work towards a set of Early Learning Goals and their progress is tracked carefully to ensure that each child makes strong progress.
Learning Approach
Teachers build outstanding relationships with the children, and because they know each pupil so well, they can shape learning around each child’s interests. This deep understanding allows them to gently guide children forward, introducing new challenges at just the right moment.
Learning in our Pre‑School and Reception classes is brought to life through a fun, creative and play‑based curriculum where every child has the chance to thrive. In the Early Years, we begin by focusing on the prime areas of development, helping children build strong foundations in communication, personal and social skills, and physical development. As they grow in confidence, we gently introduce the specific areas of learning, including phonics, reading, writing, maths, humanities and the arts.
Enrichment
Pre-School and Reception classes receive specialist lessons in French, music, forest school and physical education which includes swimming at Lancing College. Creative artwork plays an important part in the curriculum and the colourful displays in the classroom and around the school help to make a bright and stimulating learning environment.
