Art

In the process of being creative in Art and Design our pupils are praised and encouraged. They are challenged to explore and make discoveries about the world in which they live and to feel comfortable about making mistakes in order that they can learn.

Art is a core part of our curriculum, and our approach is rooted in a strong Fine Art ethos. Pupils build essential artistic skills through a focus on drawing, which underpins every project and helps them master key formal elements such as line, colour, form, texture, tone and light.

Across the year, every year group enjoys a rich variety of creative experiences – typically including a two‑dimensional project, a three‑dimensional piece and opportunities to explore printmaking, textiles or craft. Each project runs over a term and is shaped around a central theme, giving pupils the chance to broaden their cultural understanding and discover the work of influential artists and designers from different eras and across the world.

Beyond the classroom, our thriving Art clubs offer an exciting space for pupils to extend their skills, experiment with new media and pursue their individual artistic interests in a supportive, inspiring environment.

They acquire excellent skills, benefitting from both clear demonstration and freedom to explore the materials and tools available. They apply these well, producing high quality artwork, as seen in displays around the school

Our facilities

Our pupils thrive in our purpose‑built Art and Technology studio – a bright, inspiring space designed to spark imagination. Here, they learn to express themselves confidently using a wide range of media, working creatively in both two and three dimensions.

In Design Technology, children have access to high‑quality tools and equipment that encourage them to think like designers and problem‑solvers. They enjoy the hands‑on experience of planning, constructing and refining their own creations, building practical skills alongside imagination.
