Music

Music is an integral element of the life of our school and a great deal is achieved by our pupils in the course of a musical year.

The teaching of music develops pupils’ ability to listen to and appreciate a wide variety of music and to make judgements about musical quality. It encourages active involvement in different forms of music making, both individual and communal, where it develops a sense of group identity and togetherness. A sense of self-discipline, creativity, aesthetic sensitivity and fulfilment is enhanced.

Teaching Approach

All pupils are taught by specialist music teachers. Class music lessons give our children the chance to be involved in, play, compose and perform music from a wide range of genres. All pupils are involved in musical performances on at least an annual basis as they make their way through the school. In addition, most pupils choose to learn at least one instrument with a peripatetic music teacher and may join one of the wide range of musical ensembles and play with other pupil musicians. Musical events and evenings, both at school and beyond, appear regularly in the school calendar.
