Tennis

Tennis is played throughout the year at Lancing College with fixtures mainly taking place in the Summer Term for both Junior and Senior boys and girls.

Students receive expert training from teachers at the school as well as from professional external coaches, who also provide private tennis lessons all year round. In addition to the regular competitive fixtures against other schools during the Summer Term, Lancing also competes in: the National Aberdare Cup (girls) & National Glanville Cup (boys); the U14, U15, U16 and U18 Sussex Shield Tournaments; the LTA Year 9&10 and Year 11-13 Schools' Competition.

Over the first two weekends of the Summer Term, Lancing co-hosts the annual U18 & U16 Boys' Sussex League Tournament (with Hurstpierpoint hosting the Girls' teams).

As well as entering competitive tournaments against other schools, Lancing also hosts inter-House tournaments designed to encourage more players of all age groups and abilities to join in and give tennis a go. The Junior players also have the opportunity to enter the Junior Manor Cup, a highly anticipated, fancy dress-style, mixed-doubles tournament played on Founder’s Day. Founder's Day also welcomes crowds to our grass courts to watch the Boys' and Girls' 1st Team v OLs exhibition match, which consistently provides a joyous and entertaining afternoon of tennis.

One of the highlights of the year is the annual Tennis Trip during the Easter break where students get the chance to travel to locations such as Croatia and Cyprus to undergo a week of expert training in the lead up to the competitive Summer Term. Open to all students from Third Form to Upper Sixth, the trip is a wonderful and enjoyable week for all enthusiastic tennis players.
