Sing with Strings presents ‘Beware the Mackerel Sky’ a smugglers’ folk opera for massed choir and orchestra hosted by the Bernardi Music Group String Academy in association with the Yehudi Menuhin School and Lancing College, as part of their 175th Anniversary Celebrations.
Bringing together school choirs, community choirs, a large string orchestra and professional opera singers, this musical spectacular will feature over 400 performers including the Lancing College Chapel Choir, College Singers and string players alongside the Yehudi Menuhin School, Bernardi Music Group String Academy and choirs from Sussex schools, including Lancing Prep Hove and Lancing Prep Worthing.
Presenting a dramatic tale of smugglers and spies, conflict, mystery, heartache and kindness, this one-act folk opera brings to life the rich smuggling heritage of an early 19th-century Sussex community in Shoreham and Lancing, weaving real-life characters and events with fiction.
