Sporting Highlights - 11 November 2022

Football
A busy week of football has seen four games in eight days for our Lancing 1st Team, with three wins last week beating The Weald School, King Edward's Witley and Lingfield.
A tough but excellent away match to cup-holders Bede's in the ESFA Cup – which could have gone either way – saw Lancing fall just short, losing 1-0.

On Tuesday our U15A team made the long trip to Bournemouth to compete in the ISFA Trophy, an excellent team performance with goals coming from Gethin W (2), Austin J, Suti K, Marley R and Beau F. It was also pleasing to see Joe J and Alex G playing up with the U15s showing much promise for their futures at Lancing.

Saturdays block fixtures saw record wins for our 2nd and 3rd teams winning 11-0 and 11-1. Ethan H scored 5 and Harry B contributed well, scoring three free kicks.

Team of the week: 2nd Team (just edging Mr Maru’s 3rd Team)

Star Player: Ethan H.

Equestrian news
During the October Half Term break, the Equestrian team competed at the Coombelands event in the Regional Points League. At 80cm the team were narrowly beaten into second place in the team competition, with Islay L placed 5th individually. The team consisted of Tom M, Isla L and Isla B, Tabitha and Romily T J.

Last weekend at Felbridge in the County Championship Qualifiers, the torrential rain halted all but the 90cm competition. Islay L and Pippa S both showed skill and determination in the atrocious conditions, with Pippa being placed 11th individually against the best of the Southeast area riders.

Badminton
Lancing hosted Brighton College here on Tuesday, after travelling to Brighton earlier this term. A fantastic performance from all the players with a few close matches but in the end, it was an overwhelming win of 14-2 to the Lancing girls’ team.

The players represented are Connie W, Nam S, Kristy W, Shanna J, Cloris C, Alysha H, Anjail B, Tiffany X.

Swimming
James R and Alessio M both swam at the Southeast Winter Regional Championships last weekend. Despite moving up to the Senior age group and with the standard of swimming being incredibly high, James rose to the challenge and swam very well completing the 200m and 400m freestyle races both in personal best times. In the 200m and 100m individual medleys he missed qualifying for the National Winter Championships by less than a second.

Alessio also swam a magnificent 200m butterfly and knocked 3 seconds off his best time. We are super exited for the potential both showed in their performances.

Hockey
The Hockey Club had plenty to celebrate after last weekend’s block fixture against Christ’s Hospital: a nail biting 0-0 draw for the 1st XI that saw Fourth Former Kitty H 4F debut for the 1st team; an incredible 8-1 win for the U14As; and a solid 2-0 from the U14Bs with both goals from Daisy D-P.

The 2nd XI, U15A and U15B all travelled to Christ’s Hospital; unfortunately the 2nd XI score did not end in our favour. The U15As produced another confident win with 4-1 finish, with all four goals coming from Lara C. The U15Bs had the final win of the day with a 3-0 finish, with goals from Tilly L and Piper S. On a day that gave us howling winds and sideways rain, the girls dealt with the conditions admirably and with plenty of energy!
