The Foundationers Campaign was launched in November 2017 with the aim of raising £3m in the first five years to fund 25 pupils from challenging backgrounds to attend Lancing College. We are pleased to announce that this target has been achieved 18 months ahead of schedule through the amazing generosity of donors and the support of our partners.
This September the College has welcomed another five Foundationers to the school, bringing our total school community to 17 Foundationers spread across all year groups. At the end of last term two pupils left Lancing and joined our group of four Foundationer OLs who are thriving in their chosen destinations and continuing to stay in touch with classmates and College staff.
In establishing the Campaign in 2017, the College was responding to research amongst over 5,000 Lancing alumni. The survey was repeated again this year and has demonstrated continued support, with 82% of OLs supporting the aims of the Foundationers Campaign, and nearly 30% planning to support it in the future.
The range and method of donation have been varied and have enabled OLs, parents and other supporters to engage with the Campaign and support in a way that suits them. The ‘Giving Week’ in 2020 will be repeated again this November as a focus of awareness and fundraising.
Commenting on achieving the target, Head Master Dominic Oliver said:
‘We are proud of how the Foundationers programme has grown and developed in its first four years. Our 17 pupils have been, and are, a credit to the school and themselves. They have thrown themselves into all that Lancing has to offer and their presence has a strong impact on the wider community. The programme is fundamentally part of the ethos of Lancing and it is something that I know is widely supported by OLs and parents. We are ambitious for the future as we embark on the second exciting phase of our campaign this November’.
The Lancing Foundationer OLs are currently studying at top universities including King’s College, Cambridge and Imperial College. We were also delighted to hear that another former pupil has recently been awarded a Benefactors Scholarship and a Blackstone Entrance Exhibition Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Middle Temple.
Eastside Young Leaders' Academy visit the College
The work with our partners has been crucial to the Foundationers Campaign and led to a unique collaboration this August when 22 pupils from Eastside Young Leaders’ Academy spent three days at Lancing College. The programme included catch-up study periods, skills development, sports and learning more about boarding life. This was a first for Lancing and also for EYLA, and it has proved an amazing experience for all young leaders and staff.
