On the final day of the Advent Term, crowds flocked to the Theatre for the annual Rock Concert. This year, the concert was integrated with the Rock and Pop element of the House Music Competition meaning stakes were high!
The concert started with an energetic rendition of Blondie’s ‘One Way or Another’, followed by covers from a range of bands including Arctic Monkeys and Led Zeppelin, along with two original compositions by Fifth Former Tom C (Second’s) and Lower Sixth Former Matilde G (Sankey’s). It was fantastic to see the debut performance of a Third Form band with lead vocals by John H (Head’s). The concert was rounded off with an unforgettable performance from the staff band.
Mr James Smith had the unenviable role of deciding on the overall winners. In third place was the performance of ‘The Ocean’ performed by Aleksandr J (School), Kian Z (Head’s), Finn L (School), and Albert L (Head’s), with vocals by Ciara H (Handford). In second place were Tom C, Harrison M (Head’s), Anna I (Sankey’s), and Henry A-E (Saints’) with renditions of ‘R U Mine’ and ‘The Man Who Sold the World’. However, the standout winners were Matilde G and Tom C with their compositions, ‘Glaciers’ and ‘Sketches’.
The concert was a wonderful way to end the Advent Term, leaving the audience with a spring in their step heading into the Christmas Holiday.
