Pupil Headliners - January 2021

Sixth Form Problem of the Week
We have had some excellent solutions throughout the Advent Term. Randa H managed the most solutions with a stunning 10 out of the 12 problems completed, closely followed by Mridul S on 7 and with Owen O and Wendy L just behind.

Congratulations to Kristy W who won the Senior Maths Problem of the Week prize for the second half of the Advent Term. Kristy is the overall winner for the term as she won the prize for the first half of term too. Well done to everyone who took part!

Senior Maths Kangaroo

Six of our top mathematicians sat the senior Kangaroo paper at the end of last term. This is a really challenging follow-on paper to the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge for pupils with a high Gold certificate in the original exam. Well done to all who took part, but in particular to Fifth Former Peter H, who was our top scorer and achieved a highly sought-after Merit. This is a terrific achievement for someone still in the Senior School.

Design & Technology Challenge
All Third Form pupils faced a remote Design & Technology challenge based around a bridge-building game. Students had to construct all eight bridges in the Bridge Constructor app for as little cost as possible. This is the second year of the challenge, and the competition stepped up significantly. In the end, seven pupils beat last year’s high score. Congratulations go to Vincy X for the top score, followed very closely by Ronan B and Alessio M.

Debating Society ESU Mace
Lancing College took part in the ESU Mace Competition via Zoom. We proposed the motion This House would ban job applicants from disclosing the names of educational institutions that they have attended against Christ’s Hospital. The judge praised Kiity C-H, Shirin M and Felix I for their pacing, delivery and prioritisation of argument. Unfortunately the team did not advance to the regional final of the competition but many congratulations to Kitty, Shirin and Felix for their hard work and grace under pressure.
