Sporting Highlights - 1 October 2021

We start by congratulating Max W who has been selected in the Sussex AA Endurance Squad. This involves the fastest runners in the county and prepares them for future Regional and National competitions.

We celebrate more individual success through Verity L, who competed at an international horse-riding event held at the South of England Showground. This was an open competition including riders from Great Britain, Italy, France, America, and Australia, comprising dressage, show jumping, and cross-country. Verity was delighted to finish 19th out of 60 riders, and placed above a previous Olympic rider. A fantastic achievement!

Our swimmers are excited to be back in the pool and competed in Round 1 of the Sussex League at Eastbourne last Thursday. It was a very closely contested competition with Lancing finishing in second place behind Ardingly in the overall points score.

Congratulations to Bethany K who has been selected for the National Development Pathway Programme with Swim England following recent results at the Festival of Swimming.

Football
After a restful Exeat weekend, the Junior and Senior footballers were straight back into action on Tuesday with National Cup games in the ESFA and ISFA National Cups.

Despite a resolute defensive display our U14A team went down in a closely fought encounter with Steyning Grammar School.

However, our Lancing College 1st XI successfully progressed into round 3 after an outstanding performance against Worth School. In what could be described as the performance of the season so far, Lancing scored seven without reply and recorded their second clean sheet in a row. Goals from William C, Harry S (2), Nana O-N, Zane A (x2) and Man of the match Henry H completed a terrific performance.

Team of the week - 1st XI; Star Player of the week - Henry H.

Hockey
On Wednesday we were anticipating hosting the annual U11 Prep School Hockey Tournament. Unfortunately, the fuel shortages meant that some teams couldn’t travel so we ran a Hockey Masterclass for Dorset House, St Christopher’s and Lancing Prep Hove with a carousel of different skills. The level of hockey was superb.

Our Senior 3rd team drew against Roedean school yesterday in a tightly fought contest.  Player of the match, Maddie H, scored to make it 1-1 with just minutes to spare.
