Sporting Highlights - 13 January 2023

Squash
Squash fixtures returned to Lancing College for the first time since the pandemic on Thursday afternoon. The 1st five and 2nd five were both triumphant against Hurst, winning 9 out of the 10 matches. There were strong performances from Lancing’s first 5, with Lincoln M, Henry G, Frankie P, Charlie S and Matthew B all winning comfortably and this bodes well for the season ahead.

Special mentions to Frankie P, Joe F and Will E who had a victory in their first ever competitive match.

Football
The 1st and 2nd XI were in action on Saturday with a tough test, away to Whitgift in the Elgin League.

A share of the points with a win for the 1st team but a loss for the 2nd team, which puts the 1st team in a strong position to progress through to the knockout stages with two games to play. Harry S capped off a fantastic performance with a goal of the season contender, volleying into the top corner from 35 yards out to ensure a 3-1 win for Lancing.

Player of the week: Harry S

Cross-Country
Five of our top runners, Lara N, Max S, Grace S, Max W and Finn S went to Bexhill to take part in county races last Saturday and there were excellent performances from all, round a really tough course in rotten conditions. Pick of the bunch was Finn S who came 4th in his race and has been pre-selected to represent Sussex in the National Championships. This is truly stellar stuff and Finn joins a very short list of Lancing pupils who have got to this level, in my time here – writes Mr Brookes.

Looking ahead to tomorrow our senior netballers travel to Seaford and Mayfield, and our hockey players take on Lingfield, both home and away. In football we host the Corinthian Casuals Schools. A long-standing traditional match played between Lancing College and Corinthian – who were formed in 1882 – it should be an excellent match!
