Sporting Highlights - 18 November 2022

Football
Saturday’s block fixtures for the Seniors were against ACS International School and Bradfield. The 1st and 2nd XI ran out comfortable winners with excellent performances winning 2-0 and 7-1, whilst our 3rd XI were held to a 1-1 draw, in a close match with ACS.

Whilst the 4th XI suffered the only defeat of the weekend, the Team of the Week and highest scoring team were the 5th XI; they ran out comfortable 8-1 winners and remain unbeaten this year.

On Wednesday, there was disappointment as the 1st XI bowed out of the ISFA Cup at the last 32 stage. Despite a good performance, they rued missed chances and conceded twice late on to lose the game 3-1. The disappointment of knowing it was a match they could have won, against one of the tournament favourites Hampton is of slight consolation, highlighting how much progress the squad has made and the good chance they still have for success this year. They will be looking to bounce back next week as they face Brighton College in the last 16 of the ISFA Trophy.

Hockey
On Saturday our Seniors and Juniors were all involved in a triangular fixture vs Charterhouse and Worth.

Our U18As faced Worth first and put up a hard-fought fight. Unfortunately Worth edged it early on and took the win 1-0. Not to be deterred the U18As went straight on to face Charterhouse. The squad looked strong in attack and despite an excellent performance throughout, the game finished 0-0. Our mighty U15Cs beat both Worth and Charterhouse 1-0 and 4-0, with all goals scored by Sasha F.

Our U15As played again on Monday in a very evenly matched fixture against Burgess Hill. The U15A remain undefeated this season and with two well-worked goals they continue their winning streak with a 2-1 win.

Our 1st and 2nd XI were back in action yesterday against Hurst. The 1st XI produced an excellent display and took the lead early, and continued their goal scoring frenzy, with a magnificent 6-1 win. Goal scorers of the afternoon included Poppy S (2 goals), Izzy H (1), Grace C (1), Hanna G-R (1) and Bea J scored 1 with an assist from Lulu B.

Our 2nd XI battled hard, but Hurst proved very strong and won the game. A great effort from all.

Swimming
Last Thursday the Lancing Swimming Team won the Boys' Senior Sussex Cup 2022 and finished second to Ardingly, ahead of Hurst in third and Eastbourne in fourth for overall points.

Special mention for Team Captain James R winning both Breaststroke and Individual Medley, and Archie N winning 50m Fly and Alessio M 50m Back stroke.

Bethany K led the Junior girls winning the 100m freestyle and ably supported by (new to team competition) Kelly N and Grace W. Harrison McD, Isaac B and Albie T – who put in strong performances for the Junior Boys – and Grace S, Mia J with Jorja S and Rosa F can hold heads high for points gained in the close fought Senior Girls' races. While Aldo W, James, Archie and Alessio were the stars winning the Senior trophy, points were close in all sections and all were a credit to Lancing.
