Sporting Highlights - Friday 25 February 2022

Badminton

We start with the Junior House Badminton competition that took place at the end of last Half Term. For the first time, all ten Houses competed against each other in rounds of 3-minute matches. For each round of games won the House earnt a single point, so it was all to play for. Competition was tight but, with a total of 21 points, no House could match up to the standard of Field's. Teme and Head's came jointly second with 18 points, and Gibbs' came third with 17 points. The Senior House Competition is taking place this week so we will announce the winners and present the trophies in due course.

Swimming

Lancing’s swimmers have been back in action over the past few weekends at the Sussex County Championships. Among some sterling swims, and new personal best times, the highlights are as follows:

- in the U15 age group, Bethany K secured silver in the 100m freestyle, gold in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 400m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle;

- in the U16 age group, Rania K won silver in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the Junior Girls 100m freestyle;

- in the U15 boys age group, and coming into his own this year, Alessio M secured gold in the 1500m freestyle, gold in the 400m Individual Medley, bronze in the 200m Individual Medley and was crowned ‘Junior Boys Champion’ in the 200m freestyle.

Despite moving up into the ‘Open age group’ of Counties this year, James R has continued to excel, earning himself a bronze in the 200m freestyle, silver in the 200m Individual Medley and bronze in the 100m Butterfly. Impressive attainment against much older and more experienced competitors.

Well done to all and especially Rania, Alessio and James who have all secured at least two Top-30 British rankings, making them highly likely to qualify for the British National Championships in July. Swimmers are back in action this weekend for the final two days of the County Championships and we wish them all the very best of luck with their remaining races.

Netball

The U15A and B Netball teams played against Roedean on Tuesday in two challenging matches. Both teams demonstrated excellent play and determination but missed chances when shooting to secure the victory. Good luck to the rest of the teams taking on Roedean tomorrow.
