Sporting Highlights - 25 November 2022

With last week’s successful mid-week fixtures, the exeat was an excellent opportunity for the students to recharge and get a well-earned rest.

Hockey
On Saturday 26 November, the Hockey Club takes on Brighton College with the U14A and Bs here at home, and the 1st and 2nd XI, U15A and B travelling to Brighton.

We are also looking forward to our House Hockey events which will be in the last week of term.

Equestrian
The Equestrian team moved on to arena eventing last Sunday. This involves a series of regular show jumps, followed by a series of cross-country style immovable objects to clear. Lancing riders competed at 70, 80, 90 and 100cm with Tom M completing two clear rounds at 70 and 80cm. Pippa S narrowly missed being placed in the 100cm event, but it was Islay L who had an almost flawless day, placing 2nd individually at 80cm and winning the 90cm event. She now qualifies for the National Championships at Hickstead later in the year.

Basketball
The Lancing Basketball Club has enjoyed a prolific start to the season. Most recently they have defeated Bede's and Ardingly at home, as well as travelling away to Brighton College and managing to pick up a win on the road. With great fundamental, unselfish, team basketball being played, they have managed to remain undefeated with five wins, and have an average winning margin of over 20 points per game.

Football
Lancing's 2nd and 3rd team entertained Kent College in matches last Thursday afternoon. Excellent performances from both sides saw both teams victorious, maintaining unbeaten runs since Half Term.

In the only midweek game this week, our 1st XI travelled to Brighton College and, in torrential conditions, came from 2-1 down at half time to win the match 4-3. A magnificent and dominant performance in the second half ensured progression into the quarter finals of the ISFA Trophy and an exciting fixture to come after the Christmas break.

A big 10 fixture block this weekend matches the Seniors against Tonbridge and the Juniors with Kent College. All will be looking to finish the season strongly with wins and fantastic performances.

Football Team(s) of the Week: 1st and 2nd XI. Star Player: Harry S

Trampolining
Third Former Sofia B competed at the National League finals at the Lee Valley velodrome in the London Olympic park, having qualified from league competitions throughout the year (Top 24 in each age/level). She competed with a bad cold, so unfortunately had to simplify her routines. In double mini trampoline, she completed two beautiful passes but the second just stepped out of the centre, knocking her down to 13th.

In trampoline she competed in league 1 – the highest level – meaning she had to complete a 10-somersault routine containing a double somersault, a one-and-a-half twisting somersault, and a 3/4 somersault  She battled through the preliminary round and qualified to the top 8 final, bouncing again in the evening and finishing 6th overall.
