Sporting Highlights - Friday 15 March 2024

A quieter week after our EXEAT weekend, however lots still to celebrate!

Swimming news
Last week at the National Bath Cup held in the London Aquatic Centre, the Lancing Swim Team were up against 80 other schools including some as far afield as Edinburgh and Newcastle. A young boys' team comprising Alessio M (Capt), Isaac B, Oscar L and Logan B put in a sterling performance but unfortunately did not make finals this year. The girls stood out with impressive wins in both their freestyle and medley relay heats and only just missed qualifying for finals. The girls – Bianca S A, Bethany K, Bella B and Bibi W – were led by Jorja S (Capt) and will certainly do well next year if they keep up their training.

Hockey news
Last Monday our U16 boys travelled away to St Edmunds College to take part in the South England final. Our first game in the semi-final resulted in a 2-0 win against Skinners. This progressed Lancing to the final against St Edmunds; in a closely contested final it was St Edmunds who scored the winning goal late on. An excellent afternoon of hockey from our U16s, with MVPs Fintan H, Bryn H, Alex McG and Austin J.

On Tuesday our U14As managed a 1-1 draw against Lewes Old Grammar. MVPs were awarded to Coco M who scored our only goal, and to Caspar F.

County Hockey news
Over the weekend we had a trio of girls from our Third Form representing Sussex County Hockey in two fixtures vs South London and Surrey.

A big congratulations to Bibi W, Kaylee B and Lily S who all made the starting XI for these fixtures, with a special mention to Lily who was made Captain for the U14 Sussex team.
