Sporting Highlights - Friday 2 October 2020

We start by congratulating Harry S who has been put forward by his Sussex hockey coaches to trial for the South of England Hockey Performance Centre in Guildford. This is a fantastic opportunity and we look forward to hearing how he gets on.

Swimming
Lancing College Swimmers took part in the first ever VIRTUAL SUSSEX LEAGUE gala last Thursday against Ardingly, Bede's and Eastbourne. Each school swam in their respective swimming pools and times were recorded and sent into the administrator to work out overall positions:

Our Junior girls came 1st overall, led by Rania K who won four individual races, ably assisted by team members Bethany K, Bryony A, Grace W (Worthing Prep) and Isabelle K.

Our Junior boys came 2nd overall. Alessio Ma led the Junior boys’ team, winning two of his races, supported by team members Malachy S, Oliver P, Jack B, Ethan R and Isaac B (Worthing Prep).

The Senior boys and girls were led by George C and Grace S, assisted by Archie N, Ben B, Thomas A, Thomas 'TJ' B, Charles L, Grace B and Rosa F.

On overall points, Ardingly came out just above Lancing, followed by Bede's and then Eastbourne.

The second round of the Virtual Sussex League is planned for 1 December with the final round being completed in March 2021.

Finally, a big well done and good luck to Rania K who has made it to the national training camp again this year, which is taking place this weekend.

Inter House Matches
It was an entertaining afternoon for all spectators out watching the Senior Inter-House matches last Saturday. The girls played in a series of timed tennis matches throughout the afternoon which remained quite close until the end when Manor edged away from Handford to take overall victory.

In the cricket, Mr Maru’s champagne moment was Ozzy R’s throw from deep in the boundary to run out Barney H. Mr Maru's player of the Tournament – for his overall performances with the bat and ball – was Tom S.

Results are as follows:

Joint Third on 2 points each: Head's, Second's and Teme.

Second Place: Gibbs' House – 6 points

First Place: School House – 8 points

Well done to all involved!

Good luck to the junior cricketers and tennis players representing their Houses this weekend.
