Sporting Highlights - Friday 18 March 2022

We start by congratulating Max W (pictured) who took part in the UK National Cross-country championships at Loughborough last weekend, running for the U15 Sussex boys. Max came fourth out of all the Sussex runners.

Over the term we have had a terrific series of six League Runs. There were some spectacular times at the front of the field, and it was cheering to see so many pupils pushing to beat their personal bests throughout the term. Well done to all who took part.

Last week's final race saw big numbers again. In the boys’ competition, Teme House secured victory by getting 50 runners round the course for the final outing, with Second's just behind them and Saints' in third. In the girls’ competition Manor held on to their lead to beat Sankey's into second place with Field's in third.

Finally, to end our running season we will start the 3 Mile Race today (Friday 18 March) at 4pm – replacing the usual League Run. This race is for pupils in the Third, Fourth and Fifth Forms, with team competitions for girls’ and boys’ Houses and individual medals for the first three finishers in both the girls and boys.

The 5 Mile Race, for Senior boys and Senior girls, takes place on Monday 21 March. The first race was way back in 1898 so it is a much-loved Lancing tradition.

Last week, several of the Lancing College Rock Climbers participated in the latest inter-school competition at Boulder Brighton. Our U16 climbers came fourth among the 11 schools that participated which is very impressive indeed. The largest number of points came from Aldo W, who scored 278. Well done to all involved!

On Thursday 10 March, the 3rd Hockey team played in an entertaining game against Christ's Hospital. Lancing showed endeavour in attack with Chris G-W creating plenty of chances for the team and Harry A being clinical in front of goal. Final score 5-2 to Lancing College.

Yesterday (17 Match) the 1st Hockey team played Hurst for a second time, having drawn 2-2 earlier in the season. With a third of the team committed to exams, it was a good opportunity to promote U14 and U15 players who have performed well this year. In the first half Lancing showed a lot of promise, and we were unfortunate not to convert the chances created by Jamie C. Final score 0-0.

The final week of the Lent Term promises to be extremely busy with all the Inter-House matches taking place in both hockey and netball. The winners will be announced next week.
